Deal will see Tractors Malaysia share in heavy equipment industry increase significantly

Mukah, 7 May 2014 – Tractors Malaysia, the Caterpillar dealership under Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd has secured a RM7 million heavy equipment deal with the mining sector, maintaining its pole position in Malaysia’s heavy equipment industry.

Tractors Malaysia recently delivered five Cat 740B off-highway trucks to the Hock Peng Group, one of the largest coal mine contractors operating in Mukah, in the East Malaysian state of Sarawak. The company is involved in extracting and transporting coal from the mining site to the Mukah Power Generation plant (MPG) and Sejingkat Power Station in Kuching.

With this deal, Tractors Malaysia has increased its market share in the heavy equipment industry in Malaysia. The market share includes the sales and maintenance services of equipment like wheel loaders, off-highway trucks, tractors, compactors, hydraulic excavators and backhoe loaders.

“The delivery of the Cat 740B marks further success in penetrating the mining and aggregates sector. We currently dominate the off-highway truck business and we hope to see further traction in the mining industry in Sarawak, Pahang, Terengganu and Johor,” said Chong Kwea Seng, Managing Director of Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd.

With almost 90 years experience in the industry, Caterpillar’s track record is stronger than ever with its superior quality and product range.

"Our product line offers the greatest cost efficiency and we have the most reliable models for high-impact industries such as mining and aggregates.

With our network of 23 branches, six depots and seven Cat Rental Stores, we provide the most efficient and long-term product support and maintenance services to our customers,” added Mr Chong.

The off-highway truck product line primarily features the articulated dump truck Cat 740B and rigid frame Cat 773E models. The largest revenue comes from the 773E while the 740B offers the most promising opportunity for growth. For Tractors Malaysia, the dump truck segment’s contribution to its bottomline is expected to grow by approximately 30% over the next five years.

On a global scale, Caterpillar Inc. is focused on Asia, including Malaysia, as a key market to lead its next wave of growth.  As the world’s leading heavy equipment and power systems brand, Caterpillar offers some of the most durable and reliable machines available.

“In fact, in high-impact industries such as mining and quarrying, metal fatigue is a big problem for our customers. Caterpillar’s blend of proven technologies and superior design offer customers highly productive, durable and reliable off-highway trucks that can deliver one of our customers’
greatest need – lowest cost per tonne,” Chong said.
