Sime Darby Industrial Debuts Pink Hydraulic Excavator in Malaysia

For the first time, Sime Darby Industrial will be introducing a pink Cat 320D hydraulic excavator in Kuala Lumpur to demonstrate its support towards breast cancer awareness.

The excavator was commissioned by Sime Darby Industrial as a unique way to shed light on the disease by collaborating with Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation (CARIF). Known as the PInk eXcavator for Cancer Research, or PIXCR, the excavator can be spotted at the MRT construction site opposite Phileo Damansara along the SPRINT highway in Petaling Jaya.

Dato’ Azhar Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of MRT Co was present to grace the handover ceremony, flanked by the Managing Director of Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd, Chong Kwea Seng and Sunway Group’s Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Chong said, “This is the first time for Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd to show our support towards CARIF and the commendable work they are doing in the name of cancer research in Malaysia. We are pleased to contribute towards raising funds for an affliction that mainly affects women via such a unique initiative.”

In support of this initiative, Sunway Construction will be adding PIXCR to its rental fleet for the next six months. Commenting on the initiative at the official handover ceremony, Founder and Chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah said, “This is indeed a noble way for Sunway to come forward and support initiatives undertaken by CARIF in combating cancer. We are indeed blessed to be able to play our part as a responsible corporate citizen.”

A portion of the rental charges from PIXCR will be channelled towards CARIF by the customer, in this case, Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd. In addition, Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd will match the portion of the rental rate contribution to CARIF.

“We hope to meet our target of RM100,000 via the rentals and fund-raising initiatives over 12 operational months. We embarked on this campaign in April 2013. Thus far, WCT Berhad had rented PIXCR for three months and the Malaysian Quarries Association (MQA) contributed RM20,000 to the campaign. Other corporate citizens such Hapseng Building Materials Sdn Bhd, Franky Construction Sdn Bhd and Spring Energy Sdn Bhd have also pledged to support this cause.

In light of the contributions and inclusive of Sunway Group’s rental contract, the campaign is assured to exceed its goal in raising funds for CARIF. I’d like to extend my heartfelt appreciation of the generosity of our partners.” Chong added.
