Get to Know Michelle Ng from Sime Motors Macau: It Started with a Passion to Developing Leadership

Michelle’s career at Sime began in 2016 as a Marketing Officer. Her dedication and hard work advanced her through the ranks, gaining valuable experiences. She is now the Marketing Manager for BMW Concessionaires and Harper Engineering in Macau.

Michelle Ng Chi Ian from Sime Motors Macau shares her journey in the marketing industry. She first started her career in an event management company that allowed her to build a strong business network and connection. One day, she was offered a position as the Marketing Officer at Harper Engineering Macau Limited (HEML) which is a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad, marking the beginning of her career in the automotive industry.

 

In her current role, she oversees the marketing functions of BMW and seven brands at HEML with a primary focus on car sales. She collaborates closely with the heads of operation to plan strategies in order to generate more leads. A significant part of her day-to-day is also reporting operational status, challenges and market conditions to the principals, keeping them abreast of the latest developments.

She attributed her growth with the support and trust of her managers, who have provided her with numerous opportunities to handle projects independently. This support has significantly boosted her confidence and increased her engagement within the company.

 

Driving Success & Tackling Challenges

Michelle's notable achievement in Sime was helping Suzuki increase its market share from 17% to 25% between 2021 and 2022. Witnessing the growth was particularly rewarding as the market during the time was rapidly shifting from internal combustion engines (ICE) to battery electric vehicles (BEV) amidst the increasing competition from numerous Chinese brands.

The COVID-19 pandemic set significant challenges for Michelle and her team. Despite the economic downturn, they continued to meet sales targets. The team remained resilience and worked together to achieve their sales.

The best way to contribute to the company’s success in Michelle’s opinion is by delivering top-notch performance every day. She highlighted the importance of teamwork and collective effort that drives the company forward. Michelle also shared the importance of recognising everyone's value within the company. Regardless of which department or job grade, each person plays a role in contributing to the team’s success.

Michelle commented that her employer’s commitment to staff welfare is excellent. During challenging times, the company provided accommodation and allowances to foreign staff affected by travel restrictions to ensure the employees’ wellbeing is taken care of. Looking to the future, Michelle aspires for Sime to achieve greater success.
