Sime Darby Industrial, a leading distributor in premium heavy equipment, has recently been awarded contracts worth up to RM80 million with PSA Singapore Terminals (PSA), the world’s largest container transhipment hub.
The contracts will see Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Sime Darby and The Netherlands-based Terberg Group, manufacturing and supplying a total of 299 units with options for another 330 units of Terberg terminal tractors to PSA.
Chong Kwea Seng, Managing Director, Sime Darby Industrial, said, “Terberg terminal tractors are renowned for being reliable and efficient, which are two imperative qualities in port operations, and we have established our expertise and track record in Malaysia over these years. We are pleased that these contracts demonstrate PSA’s confidence in our products being world-class and reflect well on our capabilities in this segment.”
“The award of these contracts is very significant to us, as PSA’s requirements are the benchmark of the world’s port industry. This signifies the standards and quality of the products that they use for their operations,” added Chong.
The first delivery to PSA will comprise 49 Terberg terminal tractors starting from May 2013 with the remaining units to be delivered by February 2014.
Commenting on the features of the terminal tractor, Chong added, “The award of the contract was a result of our continuous product development with our principal, Terberg Benschop, and PSA on existing units already in use. The initiative enhanced the design which exceeded the standards set forth. The improvements that were developed resulted in increased fuel efficiency, safety and better working conditions for operators.”
“On the business front, we are bullish on the outlook for terminal tractors in 2013. There are strong growth prospects in Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. We look forward to strengthening our presence in these markets and tap into new ones such Taiwan and Pakistan,” he concluded.
Terberg Tractors Malaysia serves the terminal tractor market in more than 16 countries across Asia Pacific. The products are locally manufactured in Pasir Gudang by Sime Darby’s subsidiary, Sime Darby TMA Sdn. Bhd.
